Izalci Lucas Ferreira, born in Araújos, Minas Gerais, on April 7, 1956, holds a degree in accounting from the Unified Teaching Center of the Federal District (UDF) and a postgraduate degree in Financial Administration from the Unified Teaching Center of Brasília (UNICEUB). Izalci Lucas began his political career in 1998, when he ran for district deputy (deputado distrital) for the PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) of the Federal District, winning as first alternate (primeira suplência). That same year, he was invited by then-Governor Joaquim Roriz to take on the role of Financial Director of the Urban Cleaning Service (Serviço de Limpeza Urbana, SLU).

In 2002, he was elected district deputy and, two years later, took leave from his mandate to serve as Secretary of Science and Technology of the Federal District. In 2006, he ran for federal deputy, once again finishing as first alternate, but returned to the Federal District’s Secretariat of Science and Technology at the invitation of then-Governor José Roberto Arruda.

In 2010, Izalci was elected federal deputy, a position to which he was reelected in 2014. In 2018, his political career reached a new level when he was elected senator for the Federal District. Izalci Lucas has been notable for his engagement with issues related to education, science, technology, and innovation.
